DIY Animal Head Plaque

Hello Remodelaholic readers! I’m Karisa from the blog Petite Modern Life. A favorite post I’ve shared here from the past was our Concrete Island. Today I’m going to share a simple tutorial for how to make a DIY Animal Head Plaque!

How to Make an Animal Head Plaque

What You’ll Need

– Spruce Pine Furring Strips (about a dollar each at Lowes)

– Large Triangle Ruler or Normal Ruler

– Miter Saw

– Light Sandpaper

– Paint or Stain

– Mountable Animal Head (I found mine at Ross, but found the same one from Wayfair here!)

Steps

Lay your wood on the ground using your animal head as a guide for how tall and wide it needs to be.

Next, using your angled ruler to draw a perfect line down to a point at the bottom of the plaque.

Now position the miter saw at an angle that will cut the line you’ve drawn. Keep your saw at that angle and cut the rest of the pieces from that side of the plaque. Then change the angle of your saw to cut the lines of the opposite side of the plaque.

Use your nail gun or hammer and nail leftover furring strips to connect the wood pieces together.

Now lightly sand down the wood and any splinters.

The plaque is ready for you to stain or paint in the color of your choice! I chose white, priming the first layer to cover the numbered pieces.

Then I used a phrase printed on a Silhouette Cameo by Erica from Dwell Beautiful to make the piece a little more fun for my office! I found using a piece of low adhesive tape, like painters tape, helpful in lifting and sticking the letters in a straight line.

Now mount your animal head to the plaque and mount your plaque to the wall! I used drywall screws straight into the wall. Here’s for how ours turned out in my new office makeover…
