Here's what you'll need to make this DIY menu board for yourself (or for the hostess with the mostest!):
- Photo frame (mine is a matted 5x7, similar to this)
- Wood veneer (available in the trim and moulding section at home stores, also on Amazon)
- Black cardstock
- Cutting machine or craft knife with a steady hand (or you could also use alphabet stickers or a decal like this)
- Menu- downloadable template
- Spray adhesive
- Washi or masking tape
- Whiteboard marker

Get started by downloading the 'menu' template here. There's a fun arrow if you'd like to add it in, I chose not to- so just toss that piece in the trash if you want. Print the template out and use to cut out of black cardstock with a craft knife, or load it into your cutting machine and cut it out of black cardstock that way (shown above).
Now, cut a piece of wood veneer just slightly larger than the opening in the frame. Hold it firmly in place and affix it to the matt with tape. Turn the matt over to add the menu lettering.
Flip the letters over on scrap paper and give a light mist of spray adhesive before pressing them onto the wood veneer. When your letters are affixed, re-assemble the frame!
Now you're free to write on your menu board as you please. Monday thru Friday, the 10 course meal for your next dinner party, or even your weekend's plan for company. I love that it's low-key enough for everyday use but looks so good with some classier decorations to be used at a dinner party. In full disclosure... I'm sitting here with a newborn baby and most definitely NOT hosting a dinner party with a mouthwatering menu. If you happen to be and want to cook enough for me, I don't think I'd turn down that invite!
So tell me- do you use a menu planner? Are you a pen and paper like I was, or do you have a fancy menu board? I'd love to hear about it in the comments!
