Aisthesis – the origin of sensations

Villa panza celebrated the ingenuity of renowned american artists robert irwin and james turrell with an exhibition entitled ‘aisthesis – the origin of sensations‘. a total of 19 works — encompassing projections, installations and sensory environments — have been integrated into the spaces of the italian villa-turned-gallery-space. two new works created by irwin and turrell had been sited specifically for the exhibition: turrell’s ganzfeld ‘sight unseen’ and irwin’s ‘varese scrim’. ‘sight unseen’ has seen the gallery’s main stable block transform into an emotive, endless landscape, whereas ‘varese scrim’ creates an immersive labyrinth shaped by natural light. italian photographer simone bossi takes us inside the exhibition through his lens, capturing the seemingly-endless colourful voids and ghostly mazes of illumination mapped out by two of the most innovative creatives working with the medium of light in the field today via Designboom
