The Coolest Circular Kitchens A”round”

(Yes, that’s a terribly corny pun. No, we won’t apologize for it.) Most kitchens are square or rectangular (think galley kitchens). You may associate triangles with the old “kitchen triangle” rule. But circular kitchens? Not quite as common, but ultra-cool! … Continued

DIY Sofa Arm Table

Hi, it’s Amy from Hertoolbelt back with another build plan.  Are you Ready For Some FOOTBALL???  It’s that time of year again!  I’ve got the perfect project for the ‘arm chair quarterback’ in your home, a Sofa Arm Table.  The Sofa Arm Table easily slips onto the arm of your sofa/couch and gives you a flat surface to place your drink and game time snacks, with a little pocket for the remote.

Need a little extra space for your game time snacks and drinks? Build this super easy sofa arm table to give you a stable surface all game long!

Measure Sofa

Measure the width of the arm on your couch or sofa.

Also determine how far down you want the sofa arm table to go and how deep you want the table.  For this sofa, the arm width was 9 1/4″ (so the top piece is 10 3/4″), I wanted it do go down about 8″ and be 14″ deep.

Material List

  • 3/4″ x wide enough for your top piece x 8′ board
  • 1 1/4″ pocket hole screws/regular screws
  • wood glue
  • sand paper
  • stain/top coat

Cut List – customize according to your sofa

  • 3/4″ x 10 3/4″ x 14″ pine board
  • 3/4″ x 8″ x 14″ pine board
  • 3/4″ x 7 1/4″ x 14″ pine board
  • 3/4″ x 3″ x 14″ pine board
  • 3/4″ x 3″ x 14″ pine board

Cut all of the pieces out for the sofa arm table.  On an inside edge of the 8″ and 7 1/4″ pieces, drill pocket holes to attach to the top piece.

Consider sanding all of your wood pieces before assembly.

Use wood glue and 1 1/4″ pocket hole screws and attach the 8″ and 7 1/4″ boards to the top board.Need a little extra space for your game time snacks and drinks? Build this super easy sofa arm table to give you a stable surface all game long! Free plans and tutorial on @remodelaholic

Pre-drill countersink holes in one of the 3″ boards.  Use wood glue and 1 1/4″ minimum screws to attach the remote storage feature.

Sand the sofa arm table until it is smooth, finishing with 120-150 grit sandpaper.  Stain or paint the table as desired.  I applied a coat of pre-stain wood conditioner, then applied a coat of General Finishes Java gel stain.  After the stain dried, I applied a coat of polyurethane.

~modern farmhouse style~

I have been purging and editing here at home and it feels so good.
Not only to be getting rid of "clutter" but also to know that my things are going to good new homes.

This brings me to the modern farmhouse style.
It's clean, it's fresh, and a bit funky, all while having that traditional look.
Here are some of my favorite modern farmhouse looks:

I love the black doors, the lanterns, and the vintage buckets used as plant holders.
You can find this here.

This concrete planter with succulents is amazing.

I would die for this door.

Home Design Inspiration Board – Green, Peach, Gray

Today’s home design inspiration board- green, peach, gray. By now everyone who has followed my home design inspiration board knows that gray is my favorite neutral.  And I’m way more inspired by food than is probably healthy.   Gray is a really sophisticated neutral and it ranges in shades from steely, bluish  to warmer taupe.   And it […]

8 Creative Furniture Makeovers (Friday Features + Link Up)

Creative Furniture Makeovers

And just like that, August is coming to an end! Oh me, oh my. I hope your summer has been wonderful and full of great projects. Today, we’ve chosen to share some of our favorite furniture projects from the party and our fabulous Facebook fans — be sure to link up here (or below) or message us if you have an amazing project you want to share with us! This is the last chance to link up to this month’s party — new party starts the first Friday in September!

Creative Furniture Makeovers

It can’t be a furniture roundup with a couple of IKEA hacks, right? Dandelion Patina made over the inexpensive dresser with paint stir sticks and some trim — great two-tone look!

Rast hack #2: Addison Meadows Lane used the small 3-drawer unit as a base for a new craft room desk, which looks fabulous!

Paint really does work wonders! Delightfully Noted gave this little dresser a chalk paint makeover.

A broken mirror doesn’t *always* mean bad luck — sometimes it means getting creative with a furniture makeover like The Aspiring Home did here!

Furniture makeovers aren’t just for indoor use — see how Seeking Lavender Lane updated her patio set, rustic style.

I love seeing old pieces given new love and style — Redo It Yourself Inspirations updated this old drop leaf table and the result is lovely!

From our Facebook fans:

It’s not often you get to see an upcycled piano! Toni and her husband turned a hand-me-down piano into a great desk!

from Toni - turning a piano into a desk 01

From Toni: “Piano into a desk. The piano was given to us for free. My husband removed the keys and metal. The metal is the heaviest and hardest piece to remove. I then kilzed it and painted it. We used all the original wood except the two stained boards.”

And, I saved my favorite for last… Lori and her daughter took a set of old barstools and turned the seats into outdoor porch swings, and the bases into side tables! Don’t you love it?

from Lori - turn a barstool into a padded outdoor swing and an end table (2)

From Lori: “They started out as bar stools that swiveled. We had seen swings made before on Pinterest and decided to give it a try. The most important thing is that they are super sturdy and from there let your imagination take over! We are making the bases from the stools into end tables by adding 3 inch thick old tongue and groove flooring as the table tops…. still working on those but they will be just as amazing as the swings! As far as the top of the chairs we ripped off the ugly green material and painted the chairs with chalk paint and Annie Sloan wax of course! Reupholstered the seats with outdoor material and then water proofed the material for outdoor use. We had to enlist the engineer/husband in where to drill the holes for the rope’s stability and functionality They would be fun hanging from a big tree or on a porch. Could also be hung in a family room!”

Water, Water, Everywhere… Meet the Wet Bath

It’s become increasingly popular in Europe, but aside from RV configurations the wet bath has not quite taken off in the US. It’s a brilliant concept: tile the entire bathroom, put a drain in the center, and do away with separate … Continued
