It’s garden season and hot on the heels of The Chelsea Flower Show came BBC Gardeners’ World Live!

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, we were thrilled to find out that registered Rated People garden designer, Georgina Chahed of Touch Landscapes, had her own border display at the show.

BBC Gardeners' World Live

Inspired by the theme of the ‘Industrial Heritage of the West Midlands’, Georgina’s garden – The Teacup Garden – was a subtropical border, with a contemporary water feature set on sandstone. The border was inspired by the heritage of Wedgwood and paid homage to the legacy of the master potters who made their name in the West Midlands. Surrounding the feature was bold architectural foliage and a whole host of vibrant flowers – take a look for yourself below!

Georgina graduated from KLC School of Design in December 2013, after achieving a diploma with distinction in garden design and this year marks her first display for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). I caught up with her at The Chelsea Flower Show with just over three weeks until her show debut and she was excited, if not slightly nervous, hoping that all the planning and long hours would be worth it in the end. She wasn’t disappointed after winning a prestigious silver medal for her efforts, saying that “the garden looks beautiful and the award is the icing on the cake”.

The aim was to show that a lot can be achieved even when you’re working with a small space and building the entire display in just four days. As with every garden, the challenge was to pick plants that would look good and thrive when you wanted them to. Seeing as exotic gardens usually look their best towards the end of summer, Georgina needed to pick plants which would flourish much earlier in time for the June show and fit in with the blue and white Jasperware inspired colour scheme. Ferns, heucheras and hostas were the stars of the show, along with a last minute swap – verbena bonariensis’ for rodgersia pinnata superbas. According to Georgina, it ended up being the most asked about plant in the scheme!

Congratulations again Georgina. I hope her creation inspires you to get creative with your gardens!
